Colin beggan was born in dublin. he became interested in music through his
father, a sometimes fiddle player and singer, and his grandfather, who had
a great store of irish songs. he began playing in the mid 1960s with various
groups, notably ‘the gallows tree’ supporting the likes of dominic behan
and the dubliners. in the 1970s he played with many artists such as Johnny
Moynihan, Matt Crannich, Clive Collins and niall toner. for several years he
played with the much acclaimed sackville string band. in 1984 he moved to
lough Key near boyle. he continues to play regularly around the region, most
notably at the by now famous friday session in Cryan’s of Carrick-on-shannon.
he has produced a number of original pieces in both song and instrumental
music. Colin plays banjo, mandolin, guitar and sings. |

frank Molloy, born in dublin, emigrated to england at age 15, he returned to
ireland in the 70’s, and in the 80’s went to live in frankfurt with his german
wife. there he joined the folk circuit and opened the acoustic instrument
and music shop, ‘fiddler’s green’. he trained in instrument building and
held workshops for disabled adults and children. as a lyricist he worked with
“Paddy goes to holyhead” a renowned folk band based in germany, for whom
he wrote several hit songs. he returned to ireland with his family in 2000.
frank is a banjo and guitar player and singer/song writer he also trained in
music recording and has produced a Cd with ardcarne youth Club named
“tunes and tales” in 2006. he founded the folk Club “folk and beyond” in
Carrick-on-shannon and boyle. |
