| The Roscommon Flute Players’ Society is organising this unique day of workshops and concerts for musicians at all levels in King House, Boyle on Saturday May 13 th 2006. In doing so we wish to promote the traditional music culture of North Connaught with special emphasis being given to the flute and fiddle partnership. The programme consists of flute workshops for beginners and masterclasses in flute and fiddle. The concert programme in the evening includes John and Catherine McEvoy Eamonn Cotter and Tony Linnane among others and is open to students and the public alike. |

Beginners’ Workshop

| Designed for young players with no previous flute experience or access to instruments this workshop will - develop young musicians skills Provide an opportunity for tin whistle players to try out flutes and be shown ‘starting out’ techniques Introduce the Society’s Flute instrument bank and procedures for borrowing flutes. Provide the opportunity for young players to meet their peers and enjoy informal sessions To nurture the flute playing tradition |

Eamonn Cotter (flute) is a highly respected flute player, maker, and teacher from Kilmaley, County Clare. He plays with the popular group Shaskeen and has released his own solo recording "Eamonn Cotter: Traditional Music from County Clare".
John McEvoy (fiddle) is originally from Birmingham now living in Meath. He comes from a family steeped in the tradition of North Roscommon. Along with his flute playing sister Catherine, he recently released a superb flute and fiddle duet CD entitled ‘The Kilmore Fancy’. |

| Roscommon Flute Players’ Society Bursaries |

| Profits from the sale of The Flute Players of Roscommon Vol. 1 go towards the promotion and development of young musicians in Roscommon. Musicians under 18 years of age, resident or born in County Roscommon may now apply for a bursary to attend a week long series of workshops at select Summer Schools and festivals throughout the country. At 4.30pm the successful applicants will be presented their bursaries by Dr. Liz Doherty, Traditional Arts Specialist with the Arts Council. From Hand to Hand – The Creative Exchange.
In association with the national Bealtaine Festival which celebrates creativity in older age, The first half of the concert is a way of focusing on the vital and integral role older people take in passing on tradition. A selection of Co Roscommon musicians both young and not so young will be featured to show how our traditional music and song is passed on down through the generations.
The Partnership of Flute and Fiddle.
The second half of the concert will be a celebration of the flute and fiddle partnership which is so prominent in the North Connaught region. It will feature John and Catherine McEvoy who will demonstrate the North Connaught tradition as well as Eamonn Cotter and Tony Linnane who are steeped in the Co Clare tradition. Also performing on the night will be the Flute Players of Roscommon themselves with their lively, flowing and rhythmic music. The royalties from their first CD released in 2004 are being used to help fund Ceol na Búille |
