Objective 4 of Roscommon County Development Board’s Cultural Priorities is “To provide support and information for people in the cultural sector”. Within this priority, Target 2 is “To seek to develop a job creation strategy for the cultural sector in collaboration with the CDB economic development agencies.”

The motivation behind this objective arises from a recognition that the cultural sector benefits all aspects of society - socially, culturally and economically.

Creativity is a characteristic essential to the development of new solutions in any sphere. From development in technology, environment, education, industry, tourism an so on, creativity is the quality that allows the next new step to be made. A society which values and encourages creativity will see the benefits of that support extend to all areas of life.

To value creativity is to nurture the creative industries and to provide the necessary supports to those working in them. Because we value the sector and wish to reap its benefits, it is upon us to endeavour to establish a climate where working in the creative industries is an economically realistic proposition.

In order to further develop this, the arts office with other partners in the County Development Board is developing a strategy for the professional development of people working in the creative sector.
