art@work

Art@Work is a residential programme organised by Roscommon County Council Arts Office where artists, financed by Roscommon County Arts Office and the Arts Council of Ireland, spend three weeks in a company in County Roscommon making artwork motivated by the environment, staff, materials and working practices of the company.

The programme was initiated to bring artists and the making of art closer to the public but holds equal benefits for artists, management and staff. Quite naturally, what’s made relates strongly to that particular environment providing a greater interest and involvement in the work from staff. More often than not staff play a key role either providing the motivation for the artwork or bringing their particular skills to the making of the artwork further enhancing their experience of the process. For the participating artists, the unusual environment of Art@work is provocative and stimulating in that it necessitates a certain amount of collaboration where initial ideas inevitably change as a result of interacting with the adopted environment. For the company itself, Art@work is a unique marketing tool, advertising a brand in different circles to new audiences whilst also demonstrating openness to new things and a creative approach to business.
