In order to increase the opportunity for Roscommon audiences to see high quality national and international performing arts events, Roscommon County Council offers financial assistance to groups or organisations, promoting one-off high quality performing arts events, which in the opinion of the authority, stimulate public interest in the arts, promote the knowledge, appreciation and practice of the arts or assist in improving the standards of the arts. Applications from individuals will not normally be considered.
Under this scheme assistance can be sought for performances of theatre, dance, music, literature, opera and other performing artforms by practitioners who have a proven national or international reputation. A separate application must be made in respect of each performance but an applicant may apply for the scheme any amount of times during any given year.
The scheme operates on the basis of acting as a guarantee against 60% of any loss made on the event up to a maximum of 50% being €500.00 (Total loss of €1,000). While each event should strive to be self-financing, the reality is that many events would not be possible to stage because of the risk of the potential financial loss that could be incurred. Please note that groups cannot apply for this scheme if the event is being funded separately through another Roscommon County Council grant.
