  Individual Artists Bursary

Eligibility - Individual artists from any discipline
  Closing Date - 5pm Thursday 27th Nov 2008

This bursary programme is designed to further the development of individual artists, from any discipline, for any purpose that will demonstratively contribute to an artist’s development.

Among such purposes, the scheme may be used to offset the expenses of the following –

  • Participation in ad-hoc education such as mentoring, research or short-term courses.
  • Development of new work for exhibition, publication or presentation.
  • Participation in conventional part-time or full-time education where other sources of public funding are unavailable.
  • Contribute to the removal of existing barriers to an artist’s development.

The value of the awards rise to a maximum of €1000.

While there is no fixed number of awards, there is generally a larger number of lesser value bursaries and a small number of maximum value ones. Bursary amounts depend on available resources, number of applicants and the quality of applications.

  • The closing date for receipt of completed application forms is 5pm, Friday 21st Nov 2008. Late applications will not be considered.
  • Applicants must live in County Roscommon.
  • The activity for which the artist wishes to apply must commence between 21st Nov 2008 and 31st December 2009.
  • Assistance will be given only in respect of activity that would, in the opinion of the Council, demonstratively contribute to the artist’s development.
  • Bursaries will be paid only after proof of activity commencing has been submitted. This may take the form of copy of receipt of course fees, letter from host of course/activity or other more appropriate verification agreed with the Arts Office.
  • Retrospective applications will not normally be considered.
  • Completed application forms must be accompanied by artists C.V. and activity details.
  • Information submitted will only be returned if a stamped addressed envelope is submitted.
  • Artists are discouraged from submitting work on slide. Photographic images should generally be either hardcp[y or in jpeg format and all multimedia work should be PC or DVD accessibe.

Applications are assessed using the following criteria –

  • Track record of artist (or potential for an emerging artist)
  • Proven commitment to high quality arts practice
  • Likely effect of activity on artist’s practice
  • In the case of courses, mentoring etc. – the quality and excellence of those activities, mentors or course
