Closing Date - Applications are not being accepted in the current year (This information is provided for reference only)

The Artist in Schools Scheme is a residency programme for primary schools in the County. The aim of this scheme is to offer pupils the opportunity to work with an artist on a once off project, designed between the artist and the school. The residency lasts for 50 hours in total and can be spread out over one term.

Owing to a overwhelming damand for the scheme in recent years, the arts office is not accepting new applications from schools for the years 2010 and 2011.

We will be accepting applications from artists to become involced in the 2011 scheme in late 2010 and we will be again accepting applications from schools late 2011 for the 2012 programme, so please take alook at the informaiton below if you thiink you may be interesting in participating in the scheme in future years.

In 2008 we altered the way in which schools apply for the Artist in Schools Scheme in an effort to reduce the initial amount of time invested by schools and artists ahead of being accepted onto the scheme. In order to apply for the scheme, schools must register their interest in the scheme by filling in the simple form below and returning it to the Arts Office.
Schools who have had the scheme in the three previous years are inelgible to apply.
Artists are selected through interview every two to three years on the basis of their experience, expertise and suitability to working in a school environment.
Five interested schools are picked annually on a lottery basis and matched to an artist. All planning between the school and the artist only commences once the school knows that they have been selected for the scheme.
The Artist in Schools scheme is built on the idea of partnership. The artist and teacher work together to make a lasting, memorable and enriching project for the children involved and for the school as a whole. This is a unique opportunity for a school to actively engage in an innovative project. Both the teacher’s and the artist’s expertise are essential in order for the children to get the maximum benefit from the programme.
Once selected, the schools and artists involved are asked to attend a special facilitated planning session to ensure that the school gets the best possible experience out of the scheme. This session will give teachers and artists an opportunity to get their planning off to a good start and to establish what they hope to get out of the scheme.
For further information please contact the Arts Office.
